The Kocherlball in pictures

Photographs by our regulars' table from the morning at the Chinese Tower, plus notes on when the light is finest and how to photograph considerately.

Taking your own

The best hour is the first

Light and moments

  • Between 5 and 6 am: dusk, candles, the illuminated tower.
  • At the 6 am opening: the first couples against a still-empty backdrop.
  • From 8 am the sun is higher, but the dance floor is full.

Courtesy

  • The ball is a festival, not a photo shoot: ask briefly before photographing people up close.
  • With children, doubly so.
  • If you publish pictures, respect the usual rules on personality rights.
Our own photographs deliberately show atmosphere rather than faces: wide shots, back views, details. The 2026 recap tells how the last ball went.

The morning is best in person

Third Sunday of July, from 6 am.
